Hosting a House Concert is an intimate way to experience the music of The Orphan Trains.
A perennial tradition, the House Concert is a gathering of your friends, family, colleagues and neighbors to enjoy live music in your living room. Typically house concerts range in size from 20-50 people.
A House Concert is a unique and magical experince. Everyone walks away happy. Your guests are thrilled to be part of a 'happening' and you look great for being a 'trendsetter' and bringing everyone together for such an exciting new experience.
A House Concert Host simply invites a comfortable number of people who are willing to pay a small donation of $10-$20 for an amazing live performance in a safe, cozy environment. Money may be collected in a jar at the door or the host may collect it. The guests are treated to an up-close and personal show and thanked for supporting live music in their community. If donations are collected, all proceeds should go to the musicians. Alternatively, the host may pay a flat amount to The Orphan Trains and treat all their friends to the gift of a show.
The host then gathers enough chairs (or pillows) to accommodate all the guests.
Refreshments are optional. Some hosts enjoy having all guests bring a pot-luck dish for a feast before the show. Some hosts brew coffee and tea. Some prefer to keep the entire focus on the musical experience. The only considerations asked of the guests are that they refrain from talking during the show (house concerts are not parties, folks really sit and listen) and refrain from smoking. Alcohol is usually reserved for after the show.
The Orphan Trains usually play two 45 minute sets with a fifteen minute intermission. We can keep the sound purely acoustic, or bring in an amplified sound system, according to the number of guests.
If this sounds interesting to you, we will do our best to work you into a tour when we are traveling through your area. Fill out the form below and let us know any additional parameters or considerations. Often it works well to host on a week night. We find that folks love a relaxing mid-week event, especially if the concert begins a 7 p.m. and is over by 9ish!
For those of you more daring, you may host a Salon, which includes a performance by The Orphan Trains, a poetry reading & a visual art show (Jewelry, Paintings & Sculpture) by the artist Wolff (WWW.WOLFFANTASTIC.COM).
By hosting a House Concert or Salon you are supporting The Art of Song, opening your home to innovative music and bringing beauty to the lives of all those who attend. We hope to see you on the road! When you're ready to become a host, please email us at info at theorphantrains.com and we'll contact you to figure out the details. Thank you! |
